|Lobster pots campaign – sign the petition!|
The Cruising Association has re-started the parliamentary petition on the government website following the general election.
Poorly marked lobster pots and fishing gear are a significant hazard for coastal cruising people. Fishermen, too, lose expensive gear as a result of entanglements. In one year alone, the RNLI has dealt with 295 incidents of fouled propellers.
It is time to work together to find a solution that is cheap and practical for fishermen. With this aim, the CA hopes to secure a government consultation about the effectiveness of the current guidance and the merits of enforceable regulations for the whole of the UK. We are seeking a consensus amongst fishermen’s organisations as well as the RYA, RNLI and others concerned with yacht safety.
If you support our campaign, please: sign the petition, even if you had already done so, as previous votes can’t be carried over.
You can also report incidents to the CA via firstname.lastname@example.org, or the RYA via this form. Tell your friends, family and club members about the campaign and petition.
It’s time to change the rules, for safety’s sake.
|Summer Cruise 2018|
The South West Group have been asked by the Association Committee to organise a cruise in the West Country. We can’t keep our lovely coast to ourselves so a small group of us are planning the event. Starting from Dartmouth on the weekend of 9th/10th June, it will finish at Falmouth on 21st.
It will be a ‘Hop on/Hop off’ cruise which, we hope, will suit members well. Details will follow later with the Spring Magazine together with registration information. Meanwhile put the dates in your diary.

To broadly promote recreational sailing in Westerly yachts, the Association works to maintain and build awareness and knowledge of the Westerly brand, among owners and non-owners alike, by supplying ideas and articles to the major sailing press in the UK.

|Westerly Owners' Association to link with Mayflower Marina at Southampton Boat Show
Plymouth's award-winning Mayflower Marina is to host the world's biggest boat owner group, the Westerly Owners' Association at the Southampton International Boat Show (Sept 11th-20th).
Though Westerly boats are no longer in production, around 12,000 can be found in UK waters and further afield. A significant number of their owners visit the show.
"The Association is a not-for-profit organisation so it cannot fund a show stand independently in the way that commercial organisations are able to," said WOA Commodore Andy Truscott.
"Mayflower kindly offered us stand space and we've been delighted to accept. It gives us a focal point where we can welcome many fellow owners of Westerly boats and it's also an ideal opportunity to recruit new members," he said.
