Quintet has taken us on adventures along the south Cornwall and Devon coasts, as well as the Channel Islands and France. For her length she is capable, spacious and comfortable. With a decent wind and flat sea she readily attains her hull speed of 6.22kts. She has many upgrades and improvements. The fresh water tank has been removed, repaired and replaced. The galley fresh water foot pump has been replaced. The fuel tank is new (so no 40 year old sludge or diesel bug to worry about). Her through hull fittings are well maintained and all her stopcocks move freely. She has a new solar panel for trickle charging the batteries. The deck was repainted with non-slip in 2025. The sails have been professionally cleaned and serviced by Penrose Sailmakers in 2025. The sail bag/stack pack has been upgraded. Her standing rigging was new in 2021, the running rigging is in decent condition. The rudder bushes were replaced in 2025 as were both hull and prop shaft anodes. She has been re-engined with a reliable Yanmar 2GM20. This has been winterised and serviced winter 2025, and the fuel filter casing has been replaced. The furling genoa is large (?oversized) and the UV strip is in good condition. Her pink and yellow cruising chute is like new. The outhaul mechanism has become jammed but we have not found this to be a problem, and could be fixed with some persistence. The halyard and sheet winches have been serviced, with new pawls and springs where needed. There are new Barton Winchers on the sheet winches to facilitate short handed sailing. The “phantom helm” Raymarine tillerpilot has been a revelation. Quintet has 2 anchors – an oversized CQR and a Bruce – both of which have given us confidently settled nights’ sleep. As you will see from the photos she has a unique (we assume) saloon conversion to a FULL SIZED DOUBLE BED. All the portlights have been converted to Lewmar opening ones to improve ventilation, and have Ocean Air portshades. There are also mosquito net covers for the portlights. The bilge keels and shallow draft enable confident drying out, creek crawling and use of cheaper moorings. The hull is being sanded and polished. With a fresh layer of antifoul, she’ll be ready to sail away on new adventures.
