Westerly Fulmar “Kioni”
Fully fitted out for cruising, Kioni is in very good condition, with comprehensive and up-to-date safety and navigational equipment and a good suit of sails. Her first owner had her from new until 2020, cruising extensively throughout Europe, while her second owners replaced the headlining throughout and fitted new standing rigging and updated navigation equipment. I bought her at the end of 2024 and fitted her out for my own use, upgrading safety equipment, fitting a new fridge compressor, and integrating the tiller pilot and remote control into the NMEA 2000 navigation suite. I fully intended to keep her for longer, but an upcoming move abroad now means that I have to sell.
She has been an excellent boat for us, winning the Youth Trophy at the 2025 Round the Island Race, finishing second Westerly by just 35 seconds and 18th overall on ISC. I would happily keep her and will continue to use her while seeking a new owner, but after winter maintenance ashore she is now back in the water and ready for another season.
The Westerly Fulmar has long been recognised as one of the standout designs in the Westerly range, combining rewarding sailing performance with the solid build quality and practical accommodation for which the marque is so well known. I chose the fin-keel version for its particularly good sailing and windward performance, while still wanting a boat that offered a very usable amount of comfort and space for family cruising. She feels spacious for her size, confidence-inspiring in stronger conditions, and has proved both quick and enjoyable to sail.
Below decks, the accommodation is practical, comfortable and well suited to cruising. The saloon provides comfortable seating around a large folding dining table with integrated bottle stowage, with two berths set either side, one of which can convert to a small double. There is also a generous aft quarter berth and a V-berth forward, making sleeping arrangements for six entirely feasible and five very comfortable. The galley is conveniently laid out and equipped with a Nelson cooker with oven and grill, a Dometic fridge, and hot and cold pressurised water. A proper navigation table is fitted, and there is an excellent range of lockers, cupboards and shelves throughout, giving the boat very useful storage for her size. The heads compartment is fitted with a Jabsco toilet (2021), basin and mirror, while two built-in hanging lockers complete a comfortable and well-proportioned interior.
