Westerly Fulmar “Sott” twin keel yacht – £24,500
Woodbridge Suffolk (winter storage). Swinging mooring at Ramsholt (River Deben).
LOA: 31’ 10” (9.8m) Draught: 4’ 0” (1.2m) Beam: 10’ 11” (3.1m)
General condition: “Sott” has always been under private ownership and was never a sea school boat as many Fulmars were. She was launched in 1980 as “Piccolo of Ichenor” and was kept on the South Coast until she was sold to a German owner in 1993. The boat was then based on the Elbe until she was sold to the previous owners in 2008. They renamed her “Sott” (N. German dialect word for Luck) and kept her in Kappeln on the Schlei Fiord (near Kiel in North Germany). We bought the boat there in 2015 and enjoyed a couple of summers sailing in the Baltic before we came back to Suffolk via the Kiel Canal, the Friesian Islands and the Netherlands Stand Mast Route. When we bought Sott we knew that she was a safe boat which needed some modernisation but was structurally sound. However, the engine would need replacing so this was completed in Germany before the trip home. There have been very few problems, and we have continued to upgrade her significantly. She is a comfortable and safe family boat.
The condition of the hull below the waterline is good. It appears to have been cleaned and epoxied by a previous owner. The topsides are still the original gelcoat they are cleaned and polished annually and are in good condition for a boat built in 1980. Internally the hull is dry, very clean and well protected with bilge paint. All seacocks and hoses replaced 2019.
