Westerly Fulmar “Sott” twin keel yacht – £24,500

Woodbridge Suffolk (winter storage).  Swinging mooring at Ramsholt (River Deben).

LOA:    31’ 10” (9.8m)  Draught: 4’ 0” (1.2m)  Beam: 10’ 11”  (3.1m)

General condition:  “Sott” has always been under private ownership and was never a sea school boat as many Fulmars were.  She was launched in 1980 as “Piccolo of Ichenor” and was kept on the South Coast until she was sold to a German owner in 1993.  The boat was then based on the Elbe until she was sold to the previous owners in 2008.  They renamed her “Sott” (N. German dialect word for Luck) and kept her in Kappeln on the Schlei Fiord (near Kiel in North Germany).  We bought the boat there in 2015 and enjoyed a couple of summers sailing in the Baltic before we came back to Suffolk via the Kiel Canal, the Friesian Islands and the Netherlands Stand Mast Route.  When we bought Sott we knew that she was a safe boat which needed some modernisation but was structurally sound.  However, the engine would need replacing so this was completed in Germany before the trip home.  There have been very few problems, and we have continued to upgrade her significantly.  She is a comfortable and safe family boat.

The condition of the hull below the waterline is good.  It appears to have been cleaned and epoxied by a previous owner.  The topsides are still the original gelcoat they are cleaned and polished annually and are in good condition for a boat built in 1980. Internally the hull is dry, very clean and well protected with bilge paint. All seacocks and hoses replaced 2019.

Engine:  Yanmar 3YM30AE (605 miles) installed 2015 with all fittings – fuel tank, exhaust, prop shaft etc.  Professionally serviced every year.  Exhaust temperature alarm.  SPW Variprop DF 80.  Volvo shaft seal.  New cutlass bearing 2026.

Electrics:  2 x 100AH domestic batteries and 1 x 60AH engine battery.  Shore power system with CTEK M300 240v charger and 3 x13amp sockets.  Battery charging system renewed 2023 with VSR, solar panels and new switches.

Sails:  Fully battened self-stacking main (3 reefs) in good condition with no repairs.  Working genoa in good condition with new sacrificial strip 2020.  Large genoa for light winds.  Cruising chute with sock in good condition.  Small self-tacking jib for heavy weather.  Lazyjacks and sail cover.

Rig:  All standing rigging was renewed in 2025.  All halyards and reefing lines are led to cockpit to 2x Lewmar 2 speed winches with jamming cleats.  Top- Reff roller reefing system for genoa to 2x Harken ST40 self tailing winches.

Mast and boom are original and in good condition for their age.  The boat is stored under cover with mast on boatyard racks.  Telescopic jib pole with mast attachment.  Self-tacking track on foredeck.

Accommodation:  Headlining renewed throughout with new flooring and woodwork restored.  Upholstery renewed with 5 berths in 2 cabins.
