SOLD! Westerly Oceanlord 41’ Masthead Sloop / Solent Rig – 2000 – for sale £80,000. SOLD!

We bought Golden Eye of Chichester in August 2022 from the boats 2nd owners. Since then, we have sailed her over 7000Nm from Lisbon into the Mediterranean via Morocco, Gibraltar, the Balearics, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Malta, Lampedusa, Tunisia and back again, reaching Greece in April 2025, for the start of the cruising season.

Over the last three and a half years we have had a chance to get up to speed on all of the boats systems, get on top of the maintenance schedule and undertake a series of upgrades to enhance the boat and get her in tip-top shape.

We were very much looking forward looking having a couple of years plain sailing around Greece, maintaining the boat, but without having to make any further major upgrades. Unfortunately, a serious health issue means that we will not be in a position to use Golden Eye for at least a couple of years, whilst I recover from a spot of Leukaemia.

We have had to accept that we need to sell Golden Eye, so she doesn’t end up deteriorating on the hard, like so many other beautiful boats. Even if we can’t enjoy her current state of seaworthiness, we would like to see someone else reap the benefits.

As such we are offering her for sale in a ready to recommission state for the start of next season. We are looking for a private sale to someone ready and able to sail away. Our goal is to find a new custodian for Golden Eye who can get as much pleasure from her as we have in our short time together. As such we are more interested in getting the right fit, rather than maximising our return from the sale.

Golden Eye of Chichester is currently on the hard in Kalamata, Greece, which is where our season was cut brutally short, when I was hospitalised for 12 days with pneumonia.

Golden Eye is EU VAT paid, as she was in Lagos, Portugal, on Brexit Day. She is a heavy and seaworthy yacht that inspires confidence and has completed a circumnavigation with her first owner. She is offered as a ready to launch in the spring with all onboard equipment, spares, tools and toys included in the sale.

Over the last three years we have invested in some big upgrades. These include:

  • Prepare, seal & re-copper coat keel / rudder (Feb 2026)
  • New Alternator (Nov 2025)
  • Victron Orion DC-DC charger (Nov 2025)
  • Brand new Yankee-cut Jib – for improved upwind performance (Oct 2025)
  • New bespoke Bimini (May 2025)
  • Removable 110W solar panel – to supplement the main fixed panel (Mar 2025)
  • Vesper XB-8000 AIS transponder (Jan 2025),
  • Raymarine Axiom2 Pro 12S chart plotter at the helm (Sept 24)
  • Raymarine Quantum 18 in radar (Sept 24)
  • Raymarine CPT-S chirp sonar (Sept 24)
  • Victron Inverter 2000W (Sept 24)
  • Brunton Autoprop (Sept 24)
  • 2*200 Ah LiFePO4 service batteries (Sept 23)

If you are ready to kick start your sailing adventures and are interested in buying the last Westerly that was fully finished by the company, please contact us by email: goldeneye@hhcib.co.uk.

You should be aware that we are in the thick of chemo, so may not get straight back to you. In addition, we were not expecting to sell Golden Eye, so much of the definitive documentation is on the boat in Kalamata and we have not taken up to date photos showing her condition.

Cheers ian & Jess McKinnon :)
