We are selling this boat because a member of our small community of owners died unexpectedly after a serious illness. See more information on https://www.boat24.com/de/segelboote/westerly/westerly-renown-32/detail/637220/
We took over the boat in Elba at the end of August 2023. According to the previous owner, he had hardly sailed it. The boat was built in 1977, so it was 46 years old at the time. After we installed a new starter battery, we sailed it as it was in September. In October, we had it taken out of the water by the Mola shipyard on Elba and extensively overhauled and partly renewed it in winter and spring 2024.
First of all, we completely sanded down the underwater hull, repaired it, primed it and applied 2 coats of antifouling just before putting it back in the water. The anodes on the keel and screws were renewed.
We replaced the seacocks in the bathroom (2 of them), as the previous owner said he had replaced all the other seacocks the year before. We also installed a new toilet pump and replaced all the toilet hoses. We repaired the hand bilge pump in the cockpit with new seals and installed a new electric bilge pump. We overhauled the fastening of the electric anchor winch and overhauled both wired remote controls.
We have installed various nautical instruments: a wind measuring system from Nasa Marine, a Raymarine Bidata device for depth and speed. In addition, a new battery charger (Victron) and a small solar system (also with a Victron charger). A new consumer battery (AGM 100 Ah) was added in the summer, as well as a new engine hour meter (none was previously installed). We installed a new remote-controlled anchor light.
According to the previous owner, the mainsail was as good as new (it looks like it :-). We had a new mizzen sail and a new genoa made at “One Sails” in Elba and also had a new Selden furling system installed. We have renewed all the sheets and halyards. ‘One Sails’ also fitted a new and customised sprayhood in 2024.
The sea railing consists of 2 steel cables, we had the upper one replaced, and 4 of the 6 mizzen shrouds are also new.
We bought a new life raft (container, for 4 people) and mounted it in a new holder on the stern pulpit.
We had the floor timbers in the cockpit overhauled and the seat timbers partially replaced. The lockers in both companionways are new, the upper locker has been removed to allow more light in. We have renewed the upholstery in the aft cabin and partly also in the saloon. We also repainted the interior walls (aft cabin, saloon, bathroom) and the lockers in the saloon.
Of course, there is always something to do on a boat of this vintage, but we have worked on the main construction sites in our eyes.
Below deck, Timotey impresses with its lovingly designed interior. The large windows in the saloon create an atmosphere that you no longer find on new boats.
