South Coast: Basic Boat Electrics
18th February 2017
Saturday, 18th February was a sunny calm winters day in Emsworth, the sort of day that urges you to go down to your boat to catch up with maintenance, We, six of us, sailors of a Pageant, two Centaurs a Griffon and an Ocean Quest were, however, inside a portacabin enjoying a one day course.
Our instructor, Andy Johnson who sails a Moody out of the Hamble took us through a comprehensive course at a good pace, held our attention throughout and answered our questions as we went along. We learned a lot. It was interesting to struggle with distant memories of school physics in the early theoretical stage and to try to remember what work we had done on our boats and whether or not it conformed with what we were learning.
In the afternoon we did some realistic practical sessions and these very clearly demonstrated that it is worth getting it right. A blown fuse at one stage emphasised the point!
It was a very worthwhile and an enjoyable day.
