Channel Islands: Fete des Ramparts Dinan
20th July 2018 - 22nd July 2018
This year’s cruise to Dinan on the la Rance took place following the Dinner in Jersey on Saturday 14th July 2018.
On Sunday morning 15th July, Magic Legend departed from St Helier for St Malo. We got into the Bassin Vauban lock at 18.30 and immediately heard the ruptious sound of celebration following France winning the World Cup football! We stayed in St Malo for 2 nights.
On Tuesday morning 17th July, Magic Legend motored into the Barrage lock for La Rance. The next lock was Le Chatelier before arriving in Dinan in the afternoon. There we were greeted by the new Harbour Master, Damien Vincent, in his dorey and directed to a Visitor’s Mooring.
In the course of the next 3 days, other vessels arrived. There were altogether 4 Westerlys and 7 motor boats and guests from Guernsey Yacht Club:
Giselle of St Helier (Geoffrey Winchester & Roger)
Magic Legend (Mike Tai & Julie Payne)
Tea Time (Robert & Odile Brial)
Sea Daisy (John & Sparks Beattie)
Echo Beach (Dave & Debra Corson)
Fun Bun (Martyn & Chrissie Powell)
Gingerlea (Stuart & Wendy Wilson)
Goin Knots (Rod Goubert & Andrea Nuttall)
Gusto Spirit (Rick & Di Oke)
Obsession (Colin & Jane Clarke)
Whatever! (Colin & Linda Le Conte)
During the afternoon on Friday 20th July, preparation for the Pontoon Party began to take place. The event got started at 16.00 and went right on to well beyond 18.00. There were plenty of drinks and nibbles for everybody under a warm blue sky. The conversation went on and on endlessly.
On Saturday 21st July, people got ready for the Fete des Remparts. Some of us got dressed into colourful medieval costumes to join in the fun and to qualify for exemption from paying an entry fee. As expected, the whole of Dinan was bustling with people and the entire city was transformed into a medieval place with a variety of markets and shows in place.
At 19.30 we all adjourned to the Restaurant Les Terre-Neuvas by the quay for Dinner. An excellent meal prepared by the Chef Greig then followed.. There were pre-ordered dishes of Starters and Mains, followed by Plateau de Fromage au Salade et Raisin and then Assiette Gourmande and Coffee. Everything was just perfect as the food was well presented and lived up to one’s expectation, in a restaurant renowned for cusine traditionnelle and specialite poisons! In the course of the evening, a Loyal Toast was proposed by Mike Tai followed by a toast to the WOA and GYC. Expression of appreciation was given to Mike & Julie for the well organised trip, much to the enjoyment of everyone.
