North Wales: Sailing to Whitehaven
6th August 2018
We set off from Conwy mid morning on 6th to arrive at Whitehaven high water on Tuesday 7th August. The entry is quite straight forward as can be seen from the lock gate picture. The entry was made easier by the staff allocating our berth on entry into the lock so we knew where to head. The weather was perfect during our stay but on the forecast for the weekend we had heard that bad weather was in the offing. Our WOA banner was deployed and sure enough two Westerly boat were contacted. One a beautifully maintained Conway, a local boat, and a W22 whose crew hailed from Lancaster. Both of the crews were not members so the opportunity was taken to hand them WOA membership forms.
The rum museum was visited and was the highlight of our stay. Highly recommended (even for teetotallers!).
The marina have very generously offered a 2 for 1 berthing fee for the next visit of a WOA group, we will be back to take advantage of their offer in the near future. The weather was deteriorating by the weekend so we prudently set off for Conwy on 9th August and due to the easterly wind at the time had a cracking sail back to North Wales. A most enjoyable visit.
