Channel Islands: Post-festive Quiz Night
20th January 2017
This event, held at GYC, was well attended by a good number of WOA CI Group members, GYC members, RCIYC members together with other invited guests including members of Guernsey Old Car Club (GOCC) who were boating enthusiasts. In total, 60 people were present.
The WOA CI Group members present were:
• Andy & Eve Burkhardt, Penguin
• Nigel & Ann Green, Sand Dollar
• Peter Moffatt, Copain
• John & Anthea Toynton, Zephyrus of Lillesdon
• John Razzak & Anne Wildeman, Thursday’s Child
• Mike Tai & Julie Payne, Magic Legend
Apologies for non-attendance were received from Brian & Liz Stuttard.
A light-hearted quiz started at 19.30, immediately after the Meat Draw. It was conducted by John Frankland as quizmaster and capably assisted by Julie Payne.
There were three rounds each consisting of Nautical, Vintage Cars and General Knowledge questions. There were 11 teams in total, ranging from 3 – 6 persons per team. The results were announced after supper:
Winning Team – Westerly 5
Runners Up – The Unsinkables
Last Place – Spooners
All three teams were presented with appropriate prizes.
A brief resume of future events of the WOA CI Group in 2017 was presented by Mike Tai, with due thanks to John Frankland the Quiz Master. John Falla, Vice Commodore GYC, who was at one time the proud owner of a Westerly Fulmar, designed by the late Ed Dubois, expressed his appreciation of the running of such a successful event for the good of the club.
A piping hot and delicious supper of Meat Pie, Chips and Vegetables, then followed.
In conclusion, the event was throughly enjoyed, without exception by everyone.
Indeed the general consensus was that it should be repeated again as an annual event after the Festive Season in the future!
