South Coast: Gins Farm rally
12th May 2018 - 13th May 2018
As summertime sailing begins
Remember the rally at Gins
With sails aquiver
On Beaulieu river
Find out what the best limerick wins!
The best reply to this invitation, although unfortunately negative was from Stephen Freedman…
I’m sad that I can’t make the rally
As oft in the south I will dally
For I’m heading up north
Soon after the fourth
On the eleventh in fact, but it neither rhymes nor scans, actually.
Fourteen boats came to this rally in uncertain drizzly weather, so Gins Farm kindly let us use their covered verandah for the pontoon party, which also of course removed the risk of falling into the water. We were joined by another fourteen people who came on wheels. Forty of us sat down to a tasty menu selection, party bags of change were handed out as there was a bit of a muddle over pricing and we had all paid too much!
Then came the limericks, ‘Flycatcher’ (Doug and Gail Pattison) was voted the winner of the gin, tonic and lemon for,
There was a young lady from Beaulieu
Whose Moody got wrecked in a hoolie,
A Westerly came
And rescued the dame
And carried her off-‘twas yours truly!
On the Sunday morning boats either competed in the race ‘round the cans’ in the East Solent or sailed away home.
