South Coast: Chichester Rally
1st September 2018 - 2nd September 2018
Twenty three boats sailed into Chichester harbour on this rally, eight of them having just completed the Nab Tower race; there would have been even more if three boats had not had to cancel because of engine problems etc. added to this several people came by car.
The ‘pontoon’ party was held on a grassy area at the end of Chichester marina which is furthest away from the lock and the yacht club, but despite this, it was undoubtedly the best spot for the occasion. Bill and Sue Redgrove (who spent 10 years sailing round the world in their Westerly Sealord, Camomile) set up a gazebo for a family lunch party to celebrate their return and their Ruby wedding, so the Westerly rally was able to continue in the same spot with the addition of a WOA banner hoisted on a spinnaker pole and a couple of extra tables for drinks and nibbles. The weather was glorious, blue sky and quite warm.
As a pretty sunset was developing, the walk to the opposite end of the marina helped to increase appetites for a good self service dinner. About 70 of us sat down to eat in the Quarter Deck room of Chichester Yacht Club….quite cosy with this number! Doug Pattison thanked the organisers and congratulated and welcomed the Redgroves home. He and George Pickburn also told us that all regional groups going to the AGM in Glasgow have been asked to contribute some entertainment reflecting their home area…thinking caps needed.
Dick Leedham then announced the winner of the Nab Tower race (Richard Trusscott in Unity, who was not present) and presented prizes to the runners up.
Sunday morning dawned another lovely day, several people went for local walks before sailing home.
