South Coast: Lymington Poole Race
26th May 2018 - 28th May 2018
Lymington – Poole Rally including Fun Pursuit Race for the ARUN TROPHY
Eight boats assembled on the Dan Bran pontoon in Lymington on the Saturday afternoon, and with one local boat there were 16 for Dinner at the Lymington Town SC. We just managed to return to our boats before there was torrential rain and an hour and a half of almost continuous sheet lightning.
On Sunday morning six boats set out for the pursuit race, accompanied by two who chose to cruise to Poole. The wind was light and fitful, and the route via the Needles channel proved a little quicker than the inshore passage past Hengisbury Head.
The winner, Richard Truscott single handed in UNITY, finished in 2 hours and 43 minutes, just 3 minutes longer than predicted, followed by SHAHIN, MORNING MIST, FLYCATCHER and SEADUST. SWIFT retired in the light winds, and decided to motor.
We all then made our way through the two bridges to Cobbs Quay marina, and were met by Jan Smallwood. We enjoyed a barbecue in the evening sunshine with wine & nibbles and prizegiving.
The next day we joined the Birmingham Navy through the bridges, with some starting their westwards passage to the Summer cruise, and others returning to base.
