Channel Islands: Supper evening for visit of the Vice Commodore
7th September 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
This event took place during a visit to Guernsey by our Vice Commodore, Mary Buchanan and her husband Ian. They were staying at the Old Government House Hotel to celebrate the occasion of their Golden Wedding Anniversary. It was Mary’s expressed wish to meet as many CIG members as possible while in Guernsey. Regrettably, in spite of adequate early notices followed by a reminder, there were no other CIG members present apart from Mike Tai and Julie Payne (Magic Legend).
Apologies were received from:
• David & Jan Ballingall (Sea Mixy)
• Robert & Odile Brial (Tea Time)
• Nigel & Ann Green (Sand Dollar)
• John Hysted & Di Roblett (Sauvage)
• Christian & Monique Lardinoit (Eole)
• Brian & Liz Stuttard (Lady Sinclair)
• Garry & Judy Wade (Elle Jay)
The informal evening began with drinks at 19.00 in the Clubhouse Bar. During the process, Mike and Julie, on behalf of the Channel Islands Group to commemorate their visit to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary, presented to Mary and Ian a water colour painting of the Casquet Rocks and Lighthouse by Henry B Wimbush 1911. As it so happened, the presentation was conducted underneath the WOA burgee! The most generous contribution from those members towards such an appropriate gift to mark the occasion is duly acknowledged.
A delicious supper prepared by the chef Peter then followed.
In conclusion, in spite of the absence of other CIG members, Mike and Julie have thoroughly enjoyed meeting Mary and Ian in the beautiful setting of GYC, overlooking St Peter Port Harbour on one side and next to the Castle Cornett on the other. We look forward to seeing Mary and Ian again at the WOA AGM in January 2018 when she will be installed as Commodore.
