Westerly on Wheels event
5th October 2018 - 6th October 2018
Ten units attended the Camping and Caravanning Club site at Chertsey, for this autumn rally of the Westerly Wheels caravanserai. The Friday afternoon would have been considered very fine and hot for midsummer, never mind early October, and the bring and share ‘pontoon party’ was a most convivial meeting, which continued on until late evening.
Peter and Vivien Knowles from Coyote brought along two sit-and-ride kayaks for people to try on the Thames, and they managed a 4-mile round trip down to Pharoah’s Island and Shepperton Lock, and picnic, during the morning.
On Saturday morning we repeated the river trip, this time with Dick and Jane Leedham accompanying Peter with their own Kayaks. The weather was not so kind on this day, and we returned to Chertsey pretty wet through, to hole-up for the afternoon, out of the rain. Others took the opportunity to explore locally.
In the evening, David had booked us in at the nearby Boathouse Restaurant, where the meal was supplemented by a complimentary glass of Prosecco. Sunday morning dawned fine and it was a chance to dry out all the gear before packing up and heading off home. Many thanks to David Symonds for so ably organising the event.
The next Westerly Wheels meeting will be a gathering at the Woodbridge Inn in the Vale of Pusey, Wiltshire on 1st to 3rd March. We’re not saying what we’re going to do, but you might just like to refresh your pancake tossing (and eating) skills!
