South Coast: Winter Walk and Soup Kitchen
25th February 2017
This year we decided it was time for a return to our original location, Bolderwood, in the New Forest.
Twenty-five WOA members made it to Bolderwood car park, where we had set up the soup kitchen. It was nice to see both old friends and also many new faces, and it provided a welcome opportunity to catch up with friends and discuss the progress of the winter maintenance to our boats.
Once again, we were fortunate to have a fine day; several members attending recalled and contrasted it with the snow and ice of the first winter walk there!
There was a choice of three walks starting from the car park, varying in length, which allowed walkers of all abilities to participate, while taking it at their own pace. There is also a deer viewing and information platform on the way round, not too far from the car park.
The usual choice of hot tomato and mushroom soup with crusty bread was distributed before the walk began, and more was available, together with teas and coffees on the walkers’ return.
Richard Truscott, winner of this year’s photographic competition, had not been able to attend the AGM in Wirral to receive his prize, so our Commodore, George Pickburn, took this opportunity to present him with it.
